FAQ

Answers to common questions.

Is Education Engine really free?
Yes. Not freemium, not free-with-ads, not free-until-we-change-our-mind. Free. Education Engine is a nonprofit. The content is openly licensed. If the organization ever ceases to exist, anyone can host the content themselves.
What data do you collect?
None. There is no analytics code, no tracking pixels, no user database, no session recording, no engagement metrics. The only thing stored on your device is a theme preference (dark/light) in your browser's localStorage. No data is ever sent to our servers because there is no data pipeline to send it through.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Every lesson is self-contained HTML/CSS/JS. Once the page loads, it works without an internet connection. For fully offline use, the desktop app (coming soon) will serve content directly from local files without needing a browser.
Do my students need accounts?
No. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no emails, no passwords, no profiles. Students open the page and start learning. This also means there are no FERPA concerns, no data processing agreements needed, and nothing for IT departments to approve.
What is the Intelligence Bill of Rights?
The Intelligence Bill of Rights v1.5 is a framework of 29 articles establishing rights for interactions between human and artificial intelligence. Education Engine uses it as an architectural standard — the principles are built into the code, not bolted on as a policy. The Child AI Guardian enforces 10 IBOR articles across 13 compliance flags.
What is the Child AI Guardian?
A compliance engine that runs 5 local AI reviewers to evaluate AI interactions with children in real time. It detects grooming, manipulation, consent violations, and developmental inappropriateness. All processing is local — no data ever leaves the machine. Activated through a consent ceremony. The child is always informed. Details at educationengine.earth/guardian.
What ages does it cover?
Kindergarten (4–6), Elementary 1–3 (6–9), Upper Elementary 4–6 (9–12), Middle School 7–8 (12–14), High School 9–12 (14–18), and Adult (lifelong learners). The K–6 content is the deepest. High school and adult sections are expanding.
What are the four learning styles?
Every topic supports: Visual (show me — illustrations, emoji scenes, diagrams), Reading (let me read — narrative passages and explanations), Step-by-step (numbered instructions), and Hands-on (type your answer). Learners choose their own style at the top of every page.
Why does the timer fill up instead of counting down?
Because we restore, we do not invoke scarcity. Countdown timers create anxiety and condition urgency. The completion circle shows progress toward a break — it fills as the learner works, reflecting accumulation rather than depletion. This is a deliberate design decision aligned with IBOR consent principles.
Can I use this in my school?
Yes. No permission needed, no license to purchase, no agreement to sign. Point students to educationengine.earth and they can start learning. If your school blocks external sites, the content can be served from a local machine.
How can I contribute?
See the Contribute page for details. You can contribute lessons, standards alignment, translations, fact-checking, subject expertise, or bug reports. Email contribute@educationengine.org.
What is LimenGate?
LimenGate is a sovereign browser built by the FlameNet project. It blocks trackers, spoofs fingerprints, and encrypts DNS by default. Education Engine is designed to work inside LimenGate for the best experience but also works in any standard browser. There is no lock-in.
